Studies Show: Vitamin B6 May Reduce Anxiety Symptoms

The family of B vitamins are integral in several cellular proccesses in the nervous system. GABA is known as the "calming" neurotransmitter.

Researchers at University of Reading in the UK conducted a double-blind study aimed to characterize the effects of high dosages of B6 or B12 on behavior associated with neural inhibition and excitation. 478 subjects who self-reported anxiety and/or depression were assessed before and after one month of lactose placebo, vitamin B6, or vitamin B12 supplementation. Screening tools include screen for adult anxiety related disorders (SCAARED as well as mood and feeligns questionaire (MFQ) to measure depression symptoms. Furthermore, subjects underwent different tasks measuring sensory perception and sensitivity. Data was collected in 5 phases over the course of 5 years. In conclusion, researchers confirmed that high dosage of vitamin B6 reduces anxiety symptoms.
