Common Types of Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety is a mental illness that occurs from the body's physical response to either a threat or perceived threat. Individuals will typically feel their heart pounding, rapid breathing, burst of energy, etc., along with excessive fears and worries as their mental responses. 

Everyone experiences some form of anxiety from time to time within their lives. Anxiety gives us the energy to avoid energy and helps us keep alert. However, for some individuals, the feeling of anxiety does not go away. For example, someone with anxiety may perceive a situatino to be much worse than it actually is, which may then affect their ability to carry out daily tasks, sleep, and focus. This can be categorized as an anxiety disorder which is one of the most common mental health conditions. 

The common types of anxiety disorders include: 

1. Generalised anxiety disorder

2. Social phobia or social anxiety disorder 

3. Panic disorder 

4. Agoraphobia 

5. Specific phobias 

6. Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

7. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

It is common for someone with an anxiety order to feel scared, worried or nervous. Individuals may feel physical symptoms such as shortness of breath or pounding heart. Treatments can include therapy, medications, or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). TMS is a relatively new treatment that is noninvasive with little to no side effects.
